Ben Rubin 的新作 - God’s Breath Hovering Over the Waters

God’s Breath Hovering Over the Waters (His Master’s Voice),感覺他的創作還蠻多元的,也無意中得知他也是猶太人。

Intrigued by scientific theorizing about the origins of the universe, Ben Rubin came across the Horn Antenna made in 1959 by Bell Laboratories in Holmdel, New Jersey. In 1964, two physicists, Arno Penzias and Robert Wilson (shown standing on the antenna in the nearby photograph), were working on the antenna when they inadvertently detected cosmic background radiation that they eventually determined to be remnant sounds from the Big Bang. “Their Nobel Prize–winning discovery constituted the first physical proof for the Big Bang theory and has provided an essential touchstone for cosmological science ever since,” says Rubin. When Rubin eventually visited the neglected apparatus, he was struck by its primitive yet beautiful form, and by the fact that this simple instrument discovered the Big Bang. Recreating the Horn Antenna here as a sound sculpture, Rubin has combined clips from interviews with Arno Penzias with the still-audible cosmological sounds from the Big Bang. Please move closer to the mouth of the horn to hear the soundscape. “His Master’s Voice,” notes Rubin, “refers to the trademark image of the RCA Victor record label, which shows a small dog with one ear cocked, amazed to hear his master’s voice coming from the horn of a Victrola record player. In a parallel universe, are we not all humble listeners before the Horn Antenna, astonished to hear sounds from that first brilliant moment of creation, sounds we might dare to imagine as God’s breath?”
