Yesterday was another amazing day at our third annual Lobby Day for Equality.  And as you may know, the California Supreme Court overturned that state’s ban on marriage equality today, a monumental triumph for the pro-equality movement nationwide. Check out Equality Ohio’s statement on the decision here.

Today the California Supreme Court declared that "there can be no doubt that extending the designation of marriage to same-sex couples, rather than denying it to all couples, is the equal protection remedy that is most consistent with our state’s general legislative policy and preference".

Further stating that "limiting the designation of marriage to a union ’between a man and a woman’ is unconstitutional [in California] and must be stricken from the statute . . .".

Can you imagine how it must feel to be a Californian today? Don’t you want to know that feeling here in Ohio?

Just today, I received a reminder of just how much work we have to do before we experience anything like what is happening in California. Below you’ll see an Action Alert from the Ohio Christian Alliance about the Equal Housing and Employment Act (SB 305). They want their members to stop the bill from becoming law. According to them, this is “an effort masquerading under the charade of civil rights to advance the homosexual agenda and gain state recognition for their lifestyle.”

They are wrong. Yet, this is just the beginning of the attacks we’re going to hear. As a statewide community, we have to stand up to this type of misinformation if we ever want to experience what California is experiencing today. You know it, I know it, and two-thirds of Ohioans agree: Discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity must end in Ohio. Passing SB 305 is the right thing to do.

Finally, when I got up this morning I had no plan to ask anyone for money today. Sometimes, plans have to change.  It is painfully clear it is going to take a lot of effort to pass SB 305.  We must counter the rhetoric of the Ohio Christian Alliance and we must have your support to do so.   Please consider a gift of $25, $50, or $100 today. 平安與分享

西洋情人節，美國人怎麼過? 前同事好奇地問我。剛看完酪梨壽司的日本經驗，腦袋中還真的沒有特別的感覺，關於所處城市的情人節氛圍。

今天上午是研究方法課程，由一位認真風趣又溫柔的男老師授課。老師關心我的作業進度，我羞赧地點頭。他沒多說其他，笑著說好，等我的報告。

中午難得一個人去聽演講(確切連結待補)，是一項還在進行中的研究計畫，與非營利組織中的跨族群人力整合狀況有關，其中一個重要的目標是促進具有多元文化背景的團體成員能夠彼此信任、合作。
此演講共有兩位講者，分別來自社工所及勞工、人力資源政策的專任教授，其中一位講者的妻子也到場聆聽(被說笑是來當靠山的)，不過另一位講者則應景地補充，今天是情人節嘛。哈，終於有關鍵字出現了。

下午是三個小時的社區倡導課程，由於犧牲午間小寐努力專注於演講，精神有點渙散的我實在有點擔心無法有良好的學習成效。此時一位身著西裝的帥哥探頭進教室，請問OOO在這兒嗎? 同學們相視後一起搖頭，原來是一項預先安排好的情人節驚喜活動，卻一時找不到女主角哩。大夥兒七嘴八舌試著幫他們找到正確的位置。
過了一會兒，帥哥又探頭進來....  總之(anyway)，我們決定要演唱一首歌給各位!
哈哈! 太棒的驚喜啦。六、七位大男生快樂吟唱著福音般的專屬於戀人的歌曲，同學們都開心極啦。

晚餐由社工所的同學Grace邀約，學姐Ling找好餐廳並且優雅駕駛，還有一位特別嘉賓，和學姐情同姊妹的唯一男士Louis作陪，前往路途中等遙遠的Outback大啖牛排。貼心的學姐已暗示(強迫? XD)過唯一的男士準備情人節巧克力，這位體貼的男士先問了出席的人數，於是Grace和我都獲得了我稱之為”漁翁(得利? XD)蛋糕”的驚喜。
Louis是我來到美國第二位見到的台灣同學，他和何學長一同迎接和我在同一天早晨抵達的Grace & Ann。他看了我的最新髮型(也就是來美後僅修剪過一次後的自然亂流)，很貼心地關切我是否還需要他的型男室友(現任台灣學生會長)的服務…. XD，太感恩了。

席間，Louis同我們分享了一些我們很少聽到的熱門時事之男生觀點….。我則意外地製造兩個烏龍，看見沙拉盤中細長的起司大聲歡叫有麵條哩，以及誤把牆壁的鱷魚裝置藝術認為是恐龍。(默)

返程途中停留大型賣場Walmart，看見一些零落的情人節應景商品(因為該買的人都已經下手了)，總算想起出門前派給自己買義理巧克力給三位室友的感恩回饋任務，於是，達成了。XD

非常感謝Grace凝聚三顆在情人節當晚可能寂寞的心，也感謝謹守朋友道德不亂閃光而且還大方發送”有名”糕餅店之義理蛋糕，本日深夜平安地與相當關照我的三位室友度過情人節。
